Multi-Room DVR Service Installation Instructions

Set-Top Box Requirements

Two specific, compatible set-top boxes are required for the Multi-Room DVR service to work

  • Motorola DCX 3400M DVR set-top box
  • DCX 700M (non DVR) set-top box

Installing Your Set-top Boxes

Step 1: Connect the coaxial cable from your cable wall outlet to the “Cable In” port on the back of your DCX700M set-top box. Make sure your connections are tight. Finger tight is adequate as you don’t want to over-tighten.

Step 2: Now, connect your TV to your set-top box. There are several options for this on your high-definition set-top box and many TV’s support multiple types of connections.

We recommend the use of an HDMI cable as it provides the clearest, sharpest picture and uses a single cable to carry the video and audio. If you are connecting this box to a Standard Definition television, you can use composite cables or component cables. For High-Definition video you must use either HDMI or component cables.

Step 3: Next, plug the power cord for your set-top box into a power strip or surge protected outlet. After approximately one minute, press the power button on your remote to turn on your set-top box. Select the appropriate video source on your TV based on the type of connection you used, usually HDMI 1. Once you see video programming on your TV, you have found the correct source.

Step 4: Repeat this process to install your DCX3400M DVR set-top box. This DVR set-top box is referred to as your ‘hub’. You can skip this step if you already have a DCX3400 DVR set-top installed.

Using Your MRDVR Service for the First Time

Step 1: To access the Multi-Room DVR menu from your DCX700M set-top box, press the “B” button on your remote.

Step 2: The first time you access the MRDVR menu from your DCX700M, you may get a message saying that “one or more hubs cannot be found”. Select the “toolbox” icon from the main MRDVR guide menu and select an appropriate name for your DVR box (family room, den, etc.).

Your Multi-Room DVR service is now ready for you to use. Please reference the Multi-Room DVR Quick Start Guide for detailed instructions for using various features associated with this service. Just remember to access the MRDVR menu, simply press the “B” button on your remote. The best way to learn is to jump in and try it out.

Please note, MRDVR service will not work at all locations and is dependant on wiring. Some condos, even some homes, may be wired such that the existing cabling will not support this service.
